I know sometimes Valentine’s Day can be a day full of love and for some it can also be a day of sadness, just because maybe situations haven’t worked out the way we wanted them too. But, I thought I would take this time to remind everyone that they are loved…You are so loved by God! He will never not love you!
In my small group , we recently went over the verses from John 13: 34-35:
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
God calls us to love each other like He loves us. Which means we are called to live a life of love for others and for God. But, how can we understand how to love with Godly love, if we don’t first understand its characteristics.
Some characteristics of Godly love:
Thinking with an eternal mindset
Jesus was all of these things and more, His love is so perfect! But to describe the love we are supposed have for each other, and the love we are supposed to have for each other there are some verses that are so unbelievably clear
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.
~ 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.
~1 John 4:7-12
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
God loves us so much, and with such a perfect love that none can ever match, that He sacrificed His son on the cross, and Jesus loves us enough that He humbly died on that cross for us, for our sins . Even if we partially understand His love we still fail to live it out everyday, and that is why we need Him and that love. Because our sin we come to Him to repent by the power of the Holy Spirit to be made clean from our sin, and Christ will welcome us with open and loving arms. And if that is not True Love, I don’t know what is…
Happy Valentine’s Day! You are so loved!
