Back in March I brought out a recipe that is in my grandma’s first cookbook and I changed it up a bit! The recipe is for cake mix cinnamon rolls! The nice thing about this recipe is that there are an endless amount of flavor combinations. I also believe that the box cake mix is such an essential item to have, and can be used for so many things like this, cakes (obviously), cookies, and breads to name a few!
Cake Mix Cinnamon Rolls
Dissolve:
2 1/2 cups warm water
2 pkgs of yeast
1/2 cup of sugar
After it has started foaming, add with a mixer
1 regular box of cake mix (flavor of choice)
Then stir in by hand
4-5 cups of flour
Knead this mixture then place in an oiled bowl to allow it to double in size. Then roll out the dough into a rectangle shape, a 1/4 inch thick on a floured surface. Spread with butter than top with the traditional cinnamon sugar mixture, or another mixture that goes well with your flavor combo. (I added nuts to my cinnamon sugar mixture). Roll up jelly roll style and cut approximately 1 inch thick. Put in greased pan, and leave approximately 1/2 inch between all the rolls. Let the rolls rise to double. Bake 350 for 15-20 minutes. Then top with whatever you would like.
I used a carrot cake mix, had a pecan cinnamon sugar filling, and put a maple pecan glaze on top. I will definitely make this flavor again come fall!
